The BMCF Mission
The Brenda Mehling Cancer Fund (BMCF) supports patients ages 18-40 as they undergo cancer treatment. It provides services to meet daily needs that are not covered by insurance. Typical grants cover $600 worth of medical co-payments, rent and mortgage, transportation, car insurance, repairs, and groceries.
Since Brenda founded it in 2001, the Fund has provided $258,000 in services for 382 young adults across 30 different states. She built it for young adults her age to maintain self-respect during months of treatment and minimize the stress of associated financial challenges. Even though she is no longer with us, we are working to fulfill Brenda's vision of a nationwide support organization that helps young adults fight - and beat - the disease.

Young Adults in the Fight
Why does the Fund focus on the needs of young adults?
In contrast to those younger and older, survival rates for young adults have not increased since 1975, possibly due to factors such as lack of insurance, less participation in clinical trials, and delayed diagnoses.

YOUNG ADULT CANCER SURVIVORS are needed for an online exercise study!
Researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are
studying ways to promote physical activity among young adult cancer
survivors using Facebook. They are seeking volunteers to enroll in a
research study that tests an exercise program designed specifically for
young adult cancer survivors. Your participation will be some of the
first data collected about an exercise program delivered through
Facebook.
All participants will have access to a Facebook group and receive
information to help cancer survivors become more physically active.
Participants will receive a $30 gift card upon completion of the study.
To learn more about the study and see if you qualify, please go to www.fitnet-unc.org.
